Signature welding blankets · Mumbai & Navi Mumbai

Welding blankets for Mumbai dock repair and MIDC fabrication

A hull-plate cut in a south Mumbai dry dock and a MIG weld in a Rabale fabrication bay need different blankets. We make two Signature ranges: the heavy DSZVCF range for cutting, running slag and covers left down for a whole docking, and the medium-duty DSZMDWB2.4 for everyday bay welding and work near live panels. Both are cut to the length × width you order, made at our Ahmedabad factory and dispatched to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

For MIDC fabrication bays and work near panels

Medium Duty DSZMDWB2.4 costs less for everyday welding spatter, and its non-metallic reinforcement suits work beside live electrics.

Heavy or medium duty: decide this first

Every Mumbai order starts with this choice. The thickness or exact model comes after. These are the listed facts for each range.

Mumbai and Navi Mumbai hot-work areas, and the blanket to start with

Hot work in the Mumbai region falls into two belts. The port side, along Mumbai's eastern waterfront, has dock repair, ship-breaking and refinery maintenance. The MIDC side, across the creek in Navi Mumbai and Raigad, has fabrication and chemical-plant maintenance. The work in each area decides which range comes first.

Every model, thinnest to thickest

Once you have chosen the range, pick the build. More thickness and GSM means more mass between the spatter and what it would damage. All heavy models are vermiculite coated and brown. For how to compare temperature figures, read our guide to reading temperature ratings.

Cutting the blanket to your length × width

Signature welding blankets are sold per piece at the size you enter. The 1 × 30 m, 1 × 2 m and 1 × 50 m figures are reference formats, not the only sizes you can buy. Three rules make the sizes right the first time.

  1. Rule 1

Measure the hot-work zone, not the weld

Sparks and slag travel further than people expect, especially from grinding and overhead work. Add a margin on every side of the area the permit covers.

  2. Rule 2

Split big covers into handleable pieces

On a dock floor or ship deck, two or three pieces that a crew can lift are often more practical than one very large blanket. List each piece as its own length × width line.

  3. Rule 3

Match the size to how the cover is used

Blankets laid over equipment, draped down a side or hung as a screen need different dimensions. Say how each piece will be used so the sizes fit the job.

For how to write the size lines on a request, see how to specify a custom size for an RFQ.

Made in Ahmedabad, dispatched to Mumbai

We cut and dispatch every blanket from our Ahmedabad factory to your dock, plant or site address in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai or Raigad. We have no branch, dealer or warehouse in Maharashtra and don't promise delivery days in advance. The dispatch date for your sizes is on the quotation. You don't need to visit us to order.

Keep beside the welding blanket

A welding blanket shields surfaces from spatter. It is not for putting out a fire. Most hot-work permits also call for a fire blanket at the job.

  • Signature Fire Blanket: a DSZFG fiberglass fire blanket kept at the hot-work point for fire response, the job a welding blanket is not made for.
  • Signature Silicon Fire Blanket: a silicon-coated fire blanket on a 1 × 2 m standard size, easy for a fire-watch to carry to the permit point.

Frequently asked questions

Answers for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Raigad buyers ordering Signature welding blankets.

Which welding blanket should a Mumbai dry-dock repair crew order?

Start with the heavy Signature Welding Blanket DSZVCF range. The roll builds are vermiculite coated and SS metallic reinforced, 3.0 mm to 5.0 mm thick, and listed at 1260 °C to 1760 °C. For hull-plate cutting where slag falls onto the blanket for a whole docking, choose DSZVCF4.0, DSZVCF4.5 or DSZVCF5.0. For deck and outfitting welding where the cover moves between jobs, DSZVCF3.0 or DSZVCF3.2 is easier to handle.

Is the medium-duty blanket enough for TTC or Taloja MIDC fabrication bays?

Usually, yes. DSZMDWB2.4 (2.4 mm, 1300 GSM, vermiculite coated, listed at 900 °C to 1000 °C) is made for everyday stick, MIG and TIG spatter in fabrication bays. If the bay does heavy grinding, sustained spatter or overhead work above plant, move up to the heavy DSZVCF range.

Which blanket goes near panels and cable trays during a refinery or chemical-unit shutdown?

DSZMDWB2.4. It is reinforced with non-metallic fabric, so it does not create a conductive path around live electrical equipment, panels or cabling. The heavy DSZVCF roll builds are SS metallic reinforced, so keep them for areas away from live electrics.

What suits gas cutting at a ship-breaking yard?

Cutting ship steel brings running slag and sustained spatter, which is beyond what the medium-duty blanket is meant for. Use the heavy DSZVCF range, and the thicker builds (DSZVCF4.0 to DSZVCF5.0) where hot plate and slag drop onto the same spot shift after shift.

How do we order a welding blanket at the size we need?

Both products are sold per piece. On the product page, choose the model, enter the length and width in metres, and the blanket is supplied at that size. The 1 × 30 m (heavy roll builds), 1 × 2 m (DSZVCF2.5) and 1 × 50 m (DSZMDWB2.4) figures are reference formats, not the only sizes you can buy.

Can one quotation cover heavy and medium blankets for different Mumbai sites?

Yes. List each model with its length × width and quantity on its own line, and give the delivery address for each site, such as a dock, a Navi Mumbai MIDC unit or a refinery contractor's stores. We quote all the lines together and confirm dispatch for each address on the quotation.

Do you have a Mumbai branch or local stock?

No. Darshan Safety Zone makes Signature welding blankets at our factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and dispatches them to Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). We have no branch, dealer or warehouse in Maharashtra and do not promise delivery days in advance. The dispatch date for your sizes is confirmed on the quotation.

Can a welding blanket double as a fire blanket at the permit point?

No. A welding blanket protects surfaces and equipment from sparks and spatter during hot work; it is not a fire response blanket. Keep a product from the fire blanket category, such as the Signature Fire Blanket, at the hot-work point for that job.

How long does a welding blanket last on a busy yard or MIDC floor?

It depends on the work, not on a count of jobs. A blanket under ship-breaking slag wears faster than one catching MIG spatter in a fabrication bay. Brush it down and look it over after every job. Take it out of service once the coating has worn bare, there are burn holes, or the fabric has turned stiff and cracks when folded.

Which product certifications can you document for a Mumbai tender?

Darshan Safety Zone is ISO 9001:2015 certified at company level. We do not claim product-level fire ratings beyond the working temperatures listed for each model. If your tender needs specific test documents, tell us with the enquiry and we will confirm what we can provide for the models you order.

Planning a docking, shutdown or bay refit in Mumbai?

Send the models, each piece's length × width, the delivery address and your required-by date. We'll quote heavy and medium lines together from our Ahmedabad factory.
