Signature welding blankets · Kolkata, Howrah & Haldia

Welding blankets for Kolkata ship repair and Howrah fabrication work

Cutting slag on a hull plate and grinding sparks in a fabrication bay need different blankets. This page matches Kolkata, Howrah and Haldia hot work to the right Signature model — heavy DSZVCF for deck and port work, medium-duty DSZMDWB2.4 for everyday bay welding and work near electrical gear. We make every blanket at our Ahmedabad factory, cut to your size, and dispatch it to your site.

For Howrah bays and work near panels

Everyday bay welding and hot work near live cabling usually need the medium-duty DSZMDWB2.4, not the heavy range. Request a quote here, or open the product to choose your size.

Industrial areas around Kolkata where welding blankets are used

Hot work around Kolkata runs from dry docks and shipyards on the Hooghly, through the port and refinery belt at Haldia, to Howrah's foundry and engineering cluster. The blanket you need follows the work in each area: how much slag lands on it, how long it stays down, and what sits underneath it.

  • Kidderpore and Netaji Subhas Docks

Port dry docks — Kolkata Dock System

    Main industries:
Ship repair, dry-docking and refit of coastal and inland vessels
    Typical use:
Hull plate renewal, deck welding and gas cutting while a vessel sits in dry dock. Blankets go over decks and hatch edges so cutting slag stays off paintwork, fittings and the deck below.

    Start with: DSZVCF3.2 to DSZVCF4.0

  • Garden Reach riverfront

Shipbuilding and fitting-out yards on the Hooghly

    Main industries:
    Shipbuilding, outfitting and afloat repair
    Typical use:
Structural welding on blocks and hulls, plus hot work during fitting-out. In machinery spaces and near switchboards, a non-metallic blanket keeps steel away from live cabling.

    Start with: DSZVCF3.2 / DSZVCF4.0; DSZMDWB2.4 near panels

  • Haldia Dock Complex

Port — cargo berths and oil jetties

    Main industries:
Bulk, liquid and container cargo handling
    Typical use:
Repair welding on cranes, conveyors, hoppers and jetty steel, often overhead or at height. Overhead work spreads spatter wide, and covers often stay down for a full maintenance window.

    Start with: DSZVCF4.0 to DSZVCF5.0

  • Haldia industrial belt

    Refinery, petrochemical and chemical hub

    Main industries:
Oil refining, petrochemicals, chemicals and fertilisers
    Typical use:
Shutdown and turnaround hot work on piping, vessels and structural steel. Long shutdowns favour the thicker, higher-GSM builds that stay down for days at a time.

    Start with: DSZVCF4.0 to DSZVCF5.0

  • Howrah foundry and engineering cluster

MSME cluster — Dasnagar, Liluah, Belgachia, Salkia, Balitikuri, Jangalpur

    Main industries:
Iron foundries, re-rolling mills, engineering spares and fabrication
    Typical use:
Fabrication welding with grinding between passes, and maintenance hot work around foundry floors. Light bay welding fits medium duty; foundry-side work needs the heavy range.

Start with: DSZMDWB2.4 for bays; DSZVCF3.2 to DSZVCF4.5 near foundry work

  • Uluberia Industrial Park

    WBIIDC industrial park, Howrah district

    Main industries:
Iron and steel casting, engineering and general manufacturing
    Typical use:
Plant maintenance welding and fabrication of frames and fixtures. Most everyday jobs sit within the medium-duty window; casting-side repairs step up to heavy.

    Start with: DSZMDWB2.4, or DSZVCF3.0 / DSZVCF3.2

The specifications that decide the order

These are the listed specifications for the two Signature welding blanket families. Confirm the model on the product page before you order. To compare temperature figures across suppliers, read our guide to reading temperature ratings.

Signature Welding Blanket (heavy)

  • Vermiculite-coated ceramic-fibre blanket, brown
  • Seven DSZVCF models; reinforced builds run 3.0 mm to 5.0 mm and 1100 to 2200 GSM
  • SS metallic reinforced on DSZVCF2.8 to DSZVCF5.0
  • Working temperature 1260 °C to 1760 °C (DSZVCF2.5: 1200 °C to 1760 °C)
  • Reference format 1 × 30 m roll (DSZVCF2.5: 1 × 2 m); ordered to your length × width

Signature Medium Duty Welding Blanket

  • Single model DSZMDWB2.4, vermiculite coated, brown
  • 2.4 mm thick, 1300 GSM
  • Non-metallic fabric reinforcement
  • Working temperature 900 °C to 1000 °C
  • Reference format 1 × 50 m roll; ordered to your length × width

Both families are sold per piece: you enter length and width in metres and we cut the blanket to that size. A welding blanket is a hot-work shield, not a fire response blanket — keep separate smother stock for fire-watch.

Frequently asked questions

Answers for Kolkata, Howrah and Haldia buyers ordering Signature welding blankets.

Which Signature welding blanket suits ship-repair hot work in Kolkata?

For hull plate renewal, deck welding and gas cutting on vessels in the Kidderpore and Netaji Subhas dry docks or the Garden Reach yards, start with the heavy Signature Welding Blanket. DSZVCF3.2 is the usual starting build at 3.2 mm and 1500 GSM; move to DSZVCF4.0 to DSZVCF5.0 when the blanket stays on deck for the whole job under sustained cutting slag. The reinforced DSZVCF models are listed at 1260 °C to 1760 °C.

Heavy or medium duty for a Howrah fabrication shop?

Most Howrah bays doing everyday stick or MIG welding on structural sections can work with the Signature Medium Duty Welding Blanket DSZMDWB2.4, rated 900 °C to 1000 °C. Choose the heavy DSZVCF range when the bay also runs heavy grinding, gas cutting or overhead work, or when the blanket stays down all week rather than coming out for one job.

Which model should we use near ship electrical panels or engine-room cabling?

Use DSZMDWB2.4. Its reinforcement is non-metallic fabric, so there is no steel in the blanket to drape around live panels, junction boxes or cable runs. The heavy DSZVCF roll models carry SS metallic reinforcement and are better kept for deck, hull and structural hot work away from live electrical gear.

Can one Kolkata order cover both a yard and a fabrication bay?

Yes. Put each use on its own line — for example DSZVCF4.0 for deck covers and DSZMDWB2.4 for the bay — with length, width and quantity for each. One quotation can carry both families; separate lines stop the heavy and medium builds being mixed up at dispatch.

Do you keep welding blanket stock or a warehouse in Kolkata?

No. Darshan Safety Zone makes Signature welding blankets at our Ahmedabad factory, cut to the length and width you order, and dispatches them to Kolkata, Howrah and Haldia addresses. We do not have a Kolkata branch, dealer or warehouse.

How quickly can welding blankets reach a Kolkata or Haldia site?

Dispatch depends on the models, sizes and quantity on your order, so we confirm it on the quotation rather than promising a fixed date on this page. Put your required-by date and the delivery pin on the request so we can tell you up front whether it is achievable.

What size should we order for deck or hull work?

Measure the area you need to protect with margin around it, not just the weld seam — cutting slag and grinding sparks travel well beyond the joint. Enter that length and width in metres; the blanket is supplied at that size and sold per piece. The 1 × 30 m figure on the heavy models is a reference roll format, not a size you have to buy.

Can welding blankets be hung to screen off a compartment or bay?

Yes, blankets can be laid flat, draped over equipment or hung as a screen. No eyelets are listed as standard, so you receive the blanket cut to your dimensions. If you need eyelets or another hanging finish for a compartment screen, say so on the quotation.

Is a welding blanket enough for fire-watch on a vessel or in a shop?

No. A welding blanket shields decks, floors and equipment from sparks and spatter during hot work. Smothering a small fire is the job of a fire blanket, which sits in a separate category. Keep both on the hot-work permit if your fire-watch plan needs smother stock.

What should a Kolkata welding blanket quotation include?

The work (ship repair, port equipment, refinery shutdown, foundry maintenance, fabrication bay or near electrical gear), the model or duty level, finished length and width in metres, quantity per size, delivery pin in Kolkata, Howrah or Haldia, and any required-by date. If the model is still unclear, describe the hot work and we will suggest one.

Need welding blankets for a Kolkata yard or Howrah bay?
