Signature silicon fire blankets · Kolkata, Howrah & Haldia

Silicon fire blankets for Howrah fabrication shops and Kolkata yard hot work

A fabrication shop needs a blanket ready at the fire-watch point and covers at each bay. A dry dock needs covers that stay over fittings for the whole repair. The Signature Silicon Fire Blanket covers both with eight models, DSZSFG0.4 to DSZSFG2.0, in grey, red or black with single-side or both-side coating. This page sets out a shop stocking plan, the right weight for dock and yard work, and how to quote it. Blankets are made in Ahmedabad and dispatched to Kolkata, Howrah and Haldia.

The uncoated option for rarely handled pieces

The plain Signature Fire Blanket is uncoated white E-glass. It suits a fire-watch piece that sits on a hook most of the time, while the silicon blanket suits pieces handled every day.

Docks, yards and workshops across Kolkata and Howrah

Hot work around Kolkata falls into two groups. The docks and shipyards along the Hooghly, from the Kolkata Dock System down to Haldia, handle vessel and berth repair. Howrah's engineering workshops handle everyday fabrication. The blanket job is different in each place.

  • Kidderpore and Netaji Subhas Docks

Dry docks of the Kolkata Dock System

Repairs carried out while a vessel sits in dry dock, with fitters cutting and grinding around deck fittings, hatch coamings and machinery.

Blanket role: Heavier covers left over fittings for the whole job; a fire-watch piece at each work front

  • Garden Reach riverfront

Shipbuilding and ship-repair frontage on the Hooghly

Outfitting and afloat repair, where hot work happens close to cabling, pipework and finished compartments.

Blanket role: Mid-weight covers moved compartment to compartment

  • Haldia Dock Complex

Port berths and jetties downstream on the Hooghly

Maintenance grinding and repairs on cranes, conveyors, hoppers and berth structures.

Blanket role: Covers over drives and walkways below the work; welding blankets for heavy cutting

  • Liluah and Belgachia

Engineering, re-rolling and foundry area, north Howrah

Repair and fabrication shops working beside foundries and re-rolling mills, plus in-house maintenance fitters.

Blanket role: Light fire-watch pieces with a grinding-station cover

  • Uluberia Industrial Park

    WBIIDC park in Howrah district

Engineering and general manufacturing units with their own maintenance and fabrication teams.

Blanket role: A stores-led kit, re-ordered model by model

Thickness: three weight bands, eight models

All eight models list a 1 × 2 metre reference size and are ordered to your length and width. More thickness means more GSM between the sparks and what is underneath. The lightest model, DSZSFG0.4, is listed at 550 °C to 900 °C; the other seven at 650 °C to 900 °C. For the full method, see our guide to choosing a fire blanket.

Light, carried by hand

  • DSZSFG0.40.4 mm · 460 GSM · 550 °C to 900 °C
  • DSZSFG0.50.5 mm · 510 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C
  • DSZSFG0.60.6 mm · 530 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C

Fire-watch pieces and light spark cover that someone picks up many times a shift.

Mid-weight, moved between jobs

  • DSZSFG0.80.8 mm · 900 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C
  • DSZSFG1.01.0 mm · 970 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C
  • DSZSFG1.21.2 mm · 1200 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C

Bay and grinding-station covers, and yard covers carried from one compartment to the next.

Heavy, left in place

  • DSZSFG1.51.5 mm · 1600 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C
  • DSZSFG2.02.0 mm · 2200 GSM · 650 °C to 900 °C

Covers that stay down over equipment for the length of a dry-dock or berth repair.

  • Single-side coating

For blankets that always lie the same way up, with one face against the surface and the other taking the sparks.

  • Both-side coating

For blankets that get flipped, shared between crews or thrown down in a hurry, so either face can face the work.

  • Grey, red or black

All three colours perform the same. Grey suits general cover; red or black helps a fire-watch piece stand out.

Where the silicon blanket stops

A silicon fire blanket is not a welding blanket. Hand the heavier jobs to the vermiculite-coated range. Our welding blanket vs fire blanket comparison explains the difference in detail.

Silicon fire blanket

  • Sparks and light slag from grinding and occasional welding
  • Cover over equipment, floors and finished parts near hot work
  • Fire-watch pieces kept ready at the work front

Welding blanket

  • Sustained welding spatter at one spot
  • Gas cutting on hull plate and heavy structures
  • Running slag and molten metal contact

Care in a humid river city

Keep blankets dry, flat or loosely rolled, and away from sharp folds that crack the coating at the crease. Before each use, look for burns, holes or coating damage, and take a damaged blanket out of service rather than patching it.

Frequently asked questions

Answers for Kolkata, Howrah and Haldia teams ordering silicon fire blankets.

Which silicon fire blanket should a Howrah fabrication shop keep for its fire-watch?

Most shops keep a light, easy-to-carry build at the fire-watch point, such as DSZSFG0.5 (510 GSM) or DSZSFG0.6 (530 GSM), both listed at 650 °C to 900 °C. A heavier DSZSFG1.0 (970 GSM) suits the cover laid beside a grinding station. Red or black makes the fire-watch piece easy to find on a crowded shop floor.

How many silicon blankets does a small fabrication shop need?

Work it out by location rather than head count: one piece at each welding or grinding bay, one at the fire-watch point, and a spare in stores so a damaged blanket can be swapped straight away. Larger shops simply repeat the bay line. Put each model and size on its own line of the quotation.

Which build suits dry-dock or yard hot work on the Hooghly?

Covers left over deck fittings, hatch edges or machinery for the length of a repair job are better in the heavier builds, DSZSFG1.5 (1600 GSM) or DSZSFG2.0 (2200 GSM). Covers that crews pick up and move between jobs work well at DSZSFG0.8 to DSZSFG1.2. Heavy gas cutting and running slag call for a welding blanket instead.

When does a Kolkata yard need a welding blanket instead of a silicon blanket?

The silicon blanket handles sparks and light slag. Sustained welding spatter, gas cutting on hull plate and molten metal contact belong to the vermiculite-coated welding blankets: the medium-duty DSZMDWB2.4, listed at 900 °C to 1000 °C, or the heavy DSZVCF range, listed at 1260 °C to 1760 °C.

Does a silicon fire blanket satisfy our hot-work permit or fire-safety rules?

We do not claim that buying the blanket meets any fire code or permit requirement. It is equipment your hot-work procedure may call for, and your safety officer decides where it goes and how it is used. No product standard is listed for the DSZSFG range; Darshan Safety Zone is ISO 9001:2015 certified as a company.

What sizes can we order?

Every model is listed against a 1 × 2 metre reference size and sold per piece. On the product page you enter length and width in metres, so a fire-watch piece, a bench cover and a deck cover can each be ordered to the size that suits it.

Single-side or both-side coating for yard and shop use?

Single-side coating is enough when one face always sits against the surface. Choose both-side coating when blankets get turned over, shared between crews or thrown down in a hurry, so that either face may end up taking the sparks.

Why pay for the silicon blanket instead of the plain Signature Fire Blanket?

The plain blanket is uncoated white E-glass, listed at 550 °C to 900 °C or 600 °C to 900 °C depending on the model, and it suits fire-watch pieces that are seldom handled. The silicon blanket's coated face copes better with oil, damp and repeated handling, which matters for blankets that move between bays and yard jobs every day.

How do we keep blankets in good order in Kolkata's humidity?

Store them dry, flat or loosely rolled, and avoid sharp folds that can crack the coating along the crease. Before each use, check the face and fabric for burns, holes or coating damage, and take any damaged blanket out of service.

Is there a Darshan Safety Zone store or warehouse in Kolkata?

No. Signature fire blankets are made at our Ahmedabad factory in Gujarat and dispatched to the Kolkata, Howrah or Haldia address on the order. We have no branch, dealer or stock in West Bengal, and dispatch timing is confirmed on each quotation.
