Intended use is the station, not the model number. Write the location on the RFQ before you pick thickness.

How large must the cover be?
Coverage is about sealing the fire source, not covering a welding bay with spark travel margin.
- The cloth must cover the burning object with edge left to seal so air cannot feed the flame from the sides.
- Signature Fire Blanket is sold per piece. Enter length and width in metres. The 1 × 2 m figure on the specification is a reference format, not a fixed sheet you must buy.
- Silicon and ceramic families list a 1 × 2 m reference. Use the buy-box dimensions when they are shown.
- Vehicle blankets are a listed 8 × 6 m — sized to cover a standard car or van and seal to the ground. Do not assume other vehicle sizes from older catalogue copy.
Duty: cabinet stocking versus plant fire-watch
Duty here is how the blanket is kept and how often it is deployed — not how many hours of grinding it will sit under.
Emergency stocking
The blanket lives in a kitchen, lab, or facility cabinet until a small fire starts. Light-to-mid DSZFG, easy to pull out, handled with gloves. Inspect on a schedule even if it has never been used.
Plant fire-watch cover
The blanket is part of a hot-work watch or maintenance programme. Uncoated DSZFG is the base. If crews handle it in oil or moisture, or if listed temperature exceeds 900 °C, step to silicon or ceramic — still as a fire blanket, not as a vermiculite weld blanket.
Construction: start with DSZFG, then step only if the job needs it
Construction is the second decision, after intended use. Thickness comes third. Do not skip to a ceramic or vehicle SKU because the name contains “fire.”

When is a specialised variant relevant?
Most facility programmes start on Signature Fire Blanket. Step sideways only when coating, temperature, or vehicle format is on the written requirement.
Silicon coated
Busy handling, splash, or a need for grey, red, or black. Single-side when one face is always up; both-side when the blanket may be turned. Not a substitute for vermiculite welding blankets under sustained spatter.

Foundry, furnace, or high radiant-heat fire-watch above the 900 °C DSZFG / DSZSFG ceiling. Three thicknesses: 3.0 mm (1000 GSM), 4.0 mm (1500 GSM), 5.0 mm (2500 GSM).

Parking, forecourt, EV charging, fleet yards. Fixed 8 × 6 m. Standard for conventional vehicle fires; Premium when EV / higher listed temperature is in scope. Containment buys time — it does not replace the fire service.

Only use this once construction is uncoated E-glass. It is a stocking aid — not a welding-blanket GSM ladder and not a claim that one thickness is certified for a kitchen.

How do you keep it ready?
A fire blanket that cannot be reached, or that is already damaged, is not part of the emergency plan. Stores and HSE should treat these checks as part of specification — not an afterthought.
- Store dry, folded or loosely rolled — not crushed under other stock.
- Put it where people can reach it without unlocking a distant store.
- Wear gloves and long sleeves on uncoated E-glass; it can itch at cut edges.
- After any fire: inspect. Scorch, holes, hardening, or contamination — replace. No published reuse-cycle count.
- Silicon-coated blankets: avoid sharp folds that crack the coating along a crease.

Keep it dry and reachable — a locked store at the back of the building is no use during an incident. Uncoated glass: handle with gloves. Inspect after any fire; retire if scorched or holed.

Which DSZFG thickness should I stock?
Twelve models run 0.18 mm (100 GSM) to 3.0 mm (1850 GSM). Light 0.18–0.5 mm builds fold small for cabinet throws. DSZFG0.6 (0.6 mm, 430 GSM) is the primary model for general stocking. 0.8–1.5 mm suits regular plant fire-watch. 2.0–3.0 mm holds more mass when the cover must keep shape. Confirm the listed temperature on the variant you order.
How does a fire blanket put a fire out?
By cutting off oxygen. Laid over a small, contained fire it starves the flames and holds heat in. It is for fires caught early. It is not a replacement for extinguishers, and anything beyond a small contained fire belongs to your emergency procedure and the fire service.
Can I reuse a fire blanket after it has been on a fire?
Only if it is genuinely undamaged after inspection. Scorched, holed, hardened, or contaminated areas mean it is finished. Condition after the event decides it — we do not publish a reuse-cycle count. If in doubt, replace it.
